Terlingua and Marathon, Texas 2-24-18
My son, Parker, and I made a long weekend trip to the Big Bend area for the express purpose of taking some images of the night sky and enjoying the scenery in the National Park. If you have never been to this area, you need to make an extra effort to see it. It is BIG COUNTRY where the description of dark skies is an understatement. When one says Big Bend dark, they mean "you can't see your hand in front of your face dark"..............! The images of the Milky Way in the gallery with the rock chimneys and outcroppings in the foreground were taken at Ten Bits Ranch just north of Terlingua. It is a bed and breakfast with a western town flavor ( http://www.tenbitsranch.com) right out of a John Wayne western movie! I can't thank the owners enough for their hospitality!
The second venue was at a ranch north of Marathon, Texas. We were the guests of a new friend whose family owns the ranch. The old dead tree and windmill was a perfect setting to take the Milky Way photos where we enjoyed a crystal clear night. This is the first of two galleries of our trip. (The second gallery is of the landscape images of the National Park.)
Enjoy the Milky Way photos!
