The Pioneer Memorial Obelisk - Herman Park, Houston, Texas
The Pioneer Memorial granite obelisk, located on Molly Ann Smith Plaza between the Jesse Jones Reflection Pool and McGovern Lake, honors the early pioneers who founded Houston. The monument was placed in Hermann Park in 1936 to celebrate the centennial of Texas Independence. It was created by a German Immigrant, Frank A. Teich, who came to the U.S. in 1878. (Per the Herman Park Conservancy website)
This monument is at the opposite end of the Reflection Pool from the Sam Houston statue that I posted yesterday. For those of you that expressed concern over my potentially wet feet while standing in the water, I came prepared…….. I had my rubber boots with me!

on September 1, 2019Another beautiful shot from Hermann Park. Makes me wish I'd visited it more often when I was a student at Rice (never mind how many years ago). The campus is right across the street from the park, an easy stroll.
