Curtiss SB2C Helldiver – Commemorative Air Force – Houston Wing
I went to West Houston Airport with some the grand children to an open house of the Commemorative Air Force – Houston Wing. I ran across this restored Curtiss SB2C Helldiver. It was a carrier-based dive bomber aircraft produced for the United States Navy during World War II. Because of its reputation for having difficult handling characteristics, the crews’ nicknames for the aircraft included the Big-Tailed Beast, Two-Cee, and Son-of-a-Bitch 2nd Class. Neither pilots nor aircraft carrier captains seemed to like it.
